From Heartbreak to Fulfillment: A Journey Guided by Intuition
If work feels like survival until Friday, it may be time to rethink what fulfillment at work really means. I’ve always enjoyed working, but I’ve learned that true fulfillment comes from something deeper – something that aligns with who you are at your core. This month, as I reflect on 25 years since my husband passed, I’m reminded how that moment shaped not only my life but also the way I approach work, choices, and trust in my own intuition.
For years, my work was satisfying on the surface, yet I always sensed there was more – something richer, something that truly resonated with who I am. The difference came when I started listening to my intuition, that quiet inner compass that guides us through life’s uncertain moments. It wasn’t always easy, and it certainly had no safe guarantees, but choosing to trust it has transformed not only my career, but my sense of purpose and fulfillment.
A Turning Point That Shaped My Path
When my daughters were little, I had stepped away from my earlier career to spend more time at home with them. By the time my husband passed, they were teenagers, and I found myself starting over from scratch. I stood at a crossroads:
- Take the safe, higher-paying job that promised stability.
- Follow my intuition toward work that resonated with my heart but carried no guarantees.
It was not an easy decision. Fear whispered more than once . The “what ifs” showed up checking to see if I was still sane. The safer path looked tempting many times.
And yet, I chose intuition. I chose passion. I chose the unknown.
Choosing Intuition Over Fear
That choice changed everything.
Work, instead of being something I “got through,” became something I looked forward to. It became a space where I could show up fully, create, contribute, and feel deeply aligned with who I am.
I discovered that work isn’t just about earning a living. It can be a source of joy, growth, and meaning. It can carry you through difficult seasons while still lighting you up inside.
Starting Over Taught Me What Fulfillment Really Means
Looking back, the real turning point wasn’t just a career shift – it was a shift in trust. I stopped outsourcing my decisions to fear or external expectations and started trusting myself.
That leap allowed me to:
- Build a career I love.
- Find financial independence in my own way.
- Create work rooted in purpose, not just security.
All because I honoured that inner voice and acted on it, even when it felt risky.
An Invitation for You
If you’re standing at your own crossroads, here’s a question worth asking:
“What might happen if I trusted my intuition instead of the safe path?”
For me, it led to a life where I love my work every single day. And I believe it can open doors for you too.
How has trusting your intuition shaped your career or life? I’d love to hear your reflections.
